Janie Mogensen

Janie Mogensen was born in Eugene, Oregon.  She moved to Elmira, Oregon as a young child and graduated from Elmira High School.  Soon after graduation, she started on an 18 year adventure as an Air Force wife, which immersed her in cultures from around the world. Janie first studied criminal law at the RAF Lakenheath campus for Central Texas College in England, where she began her undergraduate studies. She then transferred to Auburn University Montgomery, (Alabama) where she graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Justice and Public Safety. She was also inducted into two honor societies, including the prestigious Phi Kappa Phi. Janie then worked as a paralegal in two family law offices and an intellectual property law firm in Spokane, Washington.  But, in her heart she was an Oregonian.

When her marriage ended, Janie moved home and attended law school at University of Oregon, where she focused on criminal and family law.  As a judicial extern for Judge Deann Novotny in Linn County, Janie got to see how the system works from the other side of the bench and realized how much she loved being in the courthouse. As an extern for the Springfield City attorney’s office, she had the opportunity to learn more about city government. In her final year of law school, she worked in the Lane County Public Defender’s office, and focused on her love of criminal law.

Janie earned her law degree from the University of Oregon in May 2014.  She studied for the Bar exam in between coaching cheerleading practices and leading Boy Scout fundraisers for her three children, and joined the Bar Association in August 2014. She then volunteered for Lane County Legal Aid’s Senior Law clinic. More recently, Janie has focused on family law. She continues to hold monthly legal clinics at Sponsors, where individuals in Lane County with a criminal history can seek advice and referrals. Janie understands that when a person seeks legal counsel it is because something has gone wrong.  It is often a traumatic time for clients and her goal is to help her clients resolve their legal issues as easily as possible so that they may be free to focus on their emotional issues.  Janie is available to help clients with criminal, juvenile, and family law issues.
